What is a vintage hair receiver vanity jar and what does hair receiver mean?

I have a little floral porcelain vanity jar that is round, 4" wide, 3'1/2" tall with a lid that has a 1-1/2" hole in the top, a metal filigree band around the middle. The bottom is stamped with Limoges France (with a WG inbetween). I thought it was for potpourri, but while trying to find out more about it, I see that similar items are called "hair receiver" vanity jars. I am curious what "hair receiver" means, and how old this little jar is?

Victorians used a Hair reciever to collect hair in. They took their hair out of the brushes they used, and put it in the small Jars. They used to use it for wigs, or to make Jewlery out of.(Yes, They wore hair bracelets.). You should try taking it to a Antique shop or someone like that, and see if they can put a date on it.
