Why, in a society where no one wants to get out of their car, are full service gas stations unsuccessful?

I mean, we have drive thru everything. Why did the full service gas stations fail?

Way back in my youth in the mid 60,s I worked part time in a full service station. Gas then cost 65 cents a gallon. My pay was 65 cents an hour.A can of oil was 25 cents. And gas wars were really gas wars, often dropping the gas price to 25 cents. But in today' s economy, with the cost of a barrel of oil priced at 75 dollars or more, the service station employee would ask for a minimum wage of at least 10 bucks an hour to pump gas for customers, raising the gas price another 5 bucks to an already inflated 3 bucks a gallon. Those days are long gone.
