Posted on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Collectibles

are there any book stores in pittsburgh, pa. that sell vintage, antique, old looking books that are affordable

i was watching oprah and cindy crawford loves getting those kinds of books. i never saw anything like them. they are gorgeous. but the ones from the store she goes to were like hundreds and hundreds of dollars. i want ones that are like old leather and antique looking, but still really afordable. any websites that sell that or stores in Pittsburgh, PA? thank you so much!

You might try Caliban on Craig Street in Oakland. It's practically on the Pitt campus. There's another used book store a few blocks from there. I forget the name of the street, but if you're on Fifth and walking down Craig toward Forbes, take a left on the street behind the PNC Bank and go one or two blocks. Caliban sometimes puts out books on sale for $3 on the sidewalk, and my husband and I picked up some beautiful old encyclopedia type books from 1915 or so for $3 each a few months ago. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for but they were pretty cool.
