Shell Handy
1993 Ford taurus transmission wont shift into gear?
it has the 3.0v6, has new ATF and 186K miles. if you put it in drive and press the gas pedal, the engine jes revs up. There is no grinding sound or no atf leaks. Any ideas of whats wrong? Some1 told me it might be the shift solenoid. Im not going to buy a new car, jes wanna fix what i have, Either way, the subframe with the engine and tranny is gonna have to be dropped. thanks
BTW...I have a garage, tools, engine hoist(jes recently built and installed a new engine in a 85 ssmontecarlo). So im pretty handy. I dont wanna shell out 1000-2000bux to a shop if i can do it.
This could be a lot of different things. First you do not mention checking the fluid level - if it's low or empty you get the "nuetral" effect. Did it stop working on the roll, or did it just one day stop going into gear? Did it happen slowly over time? With nearly 200,000 miles I would either rebuild that tranny or buy a reconditioned one - no disrespect but that model car is not worth much, so weight the benefits of getting a different ride. Good Luck to you.
