Oil Nascar
Since NASCAR serves no useful purpose, should it be discontinued as an war effort to save oil?
How many people waste gas to travel to NASCAR races just to watch the drivers turn left? Isn't this a mindless, resource wasting sport?
My dear conservative friend Ruth - bad mood this evening? I drive back and forth to work and stop at the grocery store on my way home, or walk to the store. The hemp tote works "swell." You might try to answer the question next time and see if you can get a "best answer." I hold no prejudices, unlike some I know.
Actually, the gas the cars use is more akin to aircraft fuel. Yes, people waste alot of gas going to races. But if you are going to ban them, then also do the rock/rap concerts, theme parks, h8ll, may as well ban all vacations, what a waste of gas! So you can continue with this to a ridiculous point.
Back in the early '70s, the same thing happened during the Oil Embargo, and the NASCAR league did shorten some races in consideration of the scarcity of gasoline, I believe. Not that it amounted to a tanker of gas, as like you said, spectators probably burn 10,000 times more gas than the entire race field combined, plus their tow rigs. But they didn't stop racing, just modified their behavior some , in token response to the issue.
And, I'd hardly say NASCAR serves no useful purpose - it keeps tens of thousands of rednecks off the road for several weekend days, they gotta park and be at the racetrack for 7-8 hours at least, the fan-atics much longer. So the main roads are more likely to be open than not. And they contribute to the local economy quite a bit. Personally, I have no use for marathons, state fairs, and other things, but to each their own. Leave well enough alone. I like to go to the occasional race myself. ![]()
