How to obtain a title on a truck? owner lost the original title..?
I was going to purchase this vehicle from the owner but, he lost the title ( so he says ).
What is the procedure to obtaining a new title for this Vehicle in the State of New Jersey?
Also How much would all of the legal fees for doing this be?
The Vehicle is a 1992 Ford F-350 4x4.
Getting a new or replacement title is VERY SIMPLE. The owner (not you, but the person you are buying the car/truck from) must go down to the local Department of Motor Vehicles and pay for a replacement title. Most states offer an "On the Spot" service, meaning he can walk away with the title if he pay the additional fee (the fees vary from state to state).
One other person stated not to buy the truck with out a title - I TOTALLY AGREE. That title is proof of ownership AND you need that title (as the new owner) to take to the DMV yourself to change the truck out of the name of the PREVIOUS owner and into YOUR NAME.
