Shell Gas

Posted on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Collectibles

Does anyone know why Shell gas would be putting NITROGEN into gasoline that is already quite flammable?

I mean if you got into an accident your car would explode. .How is adding NITROGEN TO GASOLINE A GOOD THING ? Anyone know?
Remember N is in TNT!

Nitrogen gas is diatomic and travels in pairs (N2) but does not support combustion (or explosions). Nitrogen may be combined with other atoms to form explosives such as TNT (Trinitrotoluene). Inert nitrogen may be added to gasoline as part of a detergent package that helps keep fuel injection systems and engine parts clean. Additives are a small but important fraction of gasoline.
