Reg Spc
Army NCOs, what are your opinions of the felt green leadership tabs for Class As?
Now I know what the regulation states about them but seem to get mixed responses from senior NCOs in my organization. Here's the deal:
I am SSG, NCOIC of my shop, supervising two soldiers (SPC). I went to the NCO of the Quarter last month and my 1SG said I should wear them, so I did. Then the President of the Board (Group CSM) asked why I was wearing them if I wasn't in a 'standard leadership position' like squad leader or platoon sergeant, etc. I didn't really know what to say other than quote the reg back to him, and he looked at me kind of funny. So what do the other NCOs think? Thanks for the advice.
A little more info: My unit is not traditional in the sense that I am in a HHC, we only have 30 some soldiers assigned to my company, and at least a 1/3rd includes the battalion command group.
EDIT: Come on current and retired NCOs , i know you're out there. I don't need anything more than your opinion.
Officially they are only supposed to be worn if you are directly in charge of someone in a slated position on the MTOE. Not every NCO and Officer is actually in a leadership position. However, every NCO and officer is a leader, so it can be argued. I personally don't like them. Your rank is enough for you to show that you are a leader. It is shown with your actions and setting the example. Not with two pieces of green felt.
