Is PDA (public display of affection) a sign of insecurity in a relationship?

I'd like some actual proof (y'know, science and studies). Personal opinions are good too. Thanks.

Bah, it's more like your love and affection for your beloved bf/gf taking over the situation and that the environment constitutes to nothing more than space to move around in for the two of you. It's a sign that the two of you just can't get enough of each other. Awww <3

I've had some of our good friends complain about me and my boyfriend doing some pdas. Pfff, that actually makes them look less supportive of our relationship although there might be some point where in they're trying to remind us of behaving well in public. But proper beahviour varies from culture to culture; country to country and person to person. And so, the real code of proper behaviour in public is subjective. Open-minded people can understand what pdas are.

But seriously, they should mind their own business. What if they were in our situation, huh? Would they be able to resist raging hormones and true feelings of love?!

Only those desperate and VERY insecure would resort to forced pdas even though they don't want to do it. They're afraid of losing that person. But that applies only to losers.
